I think it useful to report on what
have been the major issues for our Association
in the last 12 months.
| PLANNING |
 |
As I am sure you are aware, the Committee
continues to keep a watchful eye over
all planning matters affecting our area
and our residents. We rely on information
provided by the Local Authority and,
most importantly, yourselves to enable
us to consider and if necessary represent
our views to the relevant authorities.
We are also watchful of any unlawful
or lawful development which may have
occurred and again, we try to make sure
that the appropriate authorities are
aware of such.
| TRAFFIC |
 |
As in other years, we are constantly
making representations and generally
communicating with our Councillors,
the Police and other authorities regarding
the problems that seem to continuously
affect our area. Again the junction
of Longland Drive and Southover, Barnet
Lane, Totteridge Lane and Oaklands Road
are just some of the continuing issues.
Even if we are successful in achieving
necessary changes for these black spots,
we will continue to keep these issues
in the public eye until results are
achieved.
| POLICING THE BOROUGH |
 |
A number of developments have taken
place in the Borough over the past year.
First, there was a Borough initiative
last December which concentrated on
burglaries. Seventeen neighbourhood
wardens were employed across the Borough.
We also concentrated on truancy projects
for schoolchildren. Barnet Council are
contemplating mobile CCTV units in appropriate
places.
| DARLANDS |
 |
We have kept a watch over this subject
and understand that a long lease trust
will be set up. Hopefully further developments
of a positive nature will result in
the coming year.
| NEWSLETTER |
 |
Our bi-annual newsletter appears to
be very successful. The quality as hopefully
you are aware has improved. Again, special
mention needs to be made of Christine
Riley who has ensured that the publications
have been successful.
| REMEMBRANCE DAY |
 |
I confirm that a wreath was laid on
behalf of our residents. Further, I
am glad to say that the closure by the
police of traffic in Totteridge Lane
during the two minute silence was entirely
satisfactory.
| GRAFFITI |
 |
This remains a problem within the Borough.
We will continue to make the necessary
representations on this issue.
| SUBSCRIPTIONS |
 |
Our experiment to separately send out
subscription letters appears to have
been successful. This process will continue.
However, please note that in order to
provide you with two opportunities to
do so there is a subscription form which
has been included in the Year Book.
| COUNTRYSIDE RIGHTS OF WAY
ACT |
 |
This Act is now in force. This means
that householders selling properties
without formal access over manor land
may have to pay a levy.
| STREET LIGHTING |
 |
An issue has arisen regarding the street
lighting on Totteridge Green. The Council
have stated that this must comply with
British Standards. We are investigating
as to whether this is really necessary
as it is felt to be inappropriate in
this particular circumstance.
| GOLDEN JUBILEE |
 |
I wish to thank Eileen Eskenzie and
others who assisted in setting up and
running the TRA stand at the Golden
Jubilee. A good time was had by all..
| FINALLY |
 |
As ever, your Committee could not function
without the hard work of all its members.
I would like to take this opportunity
to thank them for all their efforts
in the past year.
I would also like to mention our thanks
to Sir Sydney Chapman, our MP, our Councillors,
the Offices of the London Borough of
Barnet and the police. Particular thanks
to Sir Maurice and Lady Laing for all
their support, our President, Eileen
Esknzi, all our Road Stewards and all
those others who have helped during
the course of the year.
This report would not be complete without
mentioning you, the Residents. By providing
the necessary information you ensure
that the Committee is aware of issues
and is able to act on such.
