| Safer Neighbourhood Watch Team in Totteridge

Totteridge Ward Safer Neighbourhood Team has been in place since April 2006 and we are housed in dedicated offices at Whetstone Police Station. The team currently consists of myself, PC Andy Caswell and PCSO's Paul Theodorou, Jon Goode and Rose Sloan. We will receive another PC in December 2006 and will have a further 3 PCSO's joining us over the coming months.
Safer Neighbourhoods really is a return to old-fashioned policing. We have no vehicles and patrol on foot. Hopefully, you will have already seen a difference on the streets of Totteridge. Unlike many previous community policing initiatives, Safer Neighbourhood staff are protected from abstractions meaning that 99% of our time is dedicated to Totteridge.

Totteridge Ward is the 2nd largest in Barnet Borough, being 8.7 square kilometers, contains over 5000 households in an area stretching from Woodside Park Underground Station through to Hendon Wood Lane. It is a unique ward being comparatively affluent when compared to many other areas and having low crime rates.
That said, it is a challenging area to Police. Since April, we have made several arrests ranging from Assault to Theft of a Motor Vehicle. We have seized a Motorbike that was being ridden anti-socially and issued numerous warnings to Motorbike owners which, if breached, would lead to them being seized as well.
We will not hesitate to take action to tackle criminality and anti-social behaviour.
We have set up a Community Action Panel which is where you, the residents of Totteridge, tell us those areas that you would like us to concentrate on and we then feedback to you the work we have done at the next meeting. This is all part of the Metropolitan Police Service's 'Citizen Focus' strategy, where we listen to what the public want from us and then act upon it, working closely with our partners and building trust and confidence.
Please feel free to get in touch with us about any concerns you may have. In an emergency though, always dial 999.
Finally, my team and myself would like to wish you all a prosperous 2007 and I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the Annual General Meeting.
