LORD Mayor’s Show :
November 11th 2006.

On November 10th John Stuttard, who has lived in Totteridge for 40 years, was admitted as Lord Mayor of the City of London in an ancient ceremony in the Guildhall. The following day, by tradition, the Lord Mayor’s Show takes place and this year children from St Andrew’s School Church of England Primary School Totteridge, travelled by underground to witness the celebrations, Here are some of their recollections of that day.

On Saturday we went to London with Mrs Locke. When we got there we had to wait 15minutes (we had a reserved place). I was looking at the horses and the carriages. The Lord Mayor was in a golden coach. There were lots of floats and a huge paper tiger. One of the people who was pulling the float was Toby, Mrs Locke’s son. I went with Simon, George and Emily Hill, Mrs Yates, Mrs Cakebread and Mrs Locke. My favourite parts were the Lord Mayor and the paper tiger. Gabriel Lester
On Saturday morning I went to the Lord Mayor’s Show with George, Harriet, Simon, Mathew, Thomas, Emily and Gabriel, some parents and some grandparents .We went on the trains. When we got there we were led to a place where we could stand. We saw the Lord Mayor going by in a golden coach to make a special promise just like Dick Whittington . There were 6000 people in the parade. There were Brownies, Cubs, people dressed as fruit and a fruit stall, schools, army men, guards, lords and ladies, companies, people walking with dogs, people singing and dancing, olden day cars, lifeboats and lots more. Some people gave us magic bracelets, whistlers, key rings, apples with a pattern on, flags and lots of sweets. There was a 2 minute silence for all the people who have died in wars. My favourite bits were the horses and the tiger. Emily Hill
We went to the Lord Mayor’s Show. First we saw the Lord Mayor in his golden coach. Then we saw the soldiers on their horses. Some people jogged along and gave out gifts. We saw the Gog and Magog giants and some floats. The parade lasted for an hour and a half. After that we went into the Guildhall and saw some statutes and the table where the Lord Mayor eats. Then we went home on the train.
