THE PLIGHT OF OUR HORSE CHESTNUT TREES...
THE STORY CONTINUES

The Horse Chestnut trees in Totteridge continue to look sad and withered though the shrivelled brown appearance of last year is less apparent.

The leaves are disfigured by leaf-miner infestation (Cameria ohridella) and worst of all, the trunks have been attacked by bleeding canker. The latter causes dieback and stem damage. The TMA have had to fell 3 trees but so far, none have needed to be cut down in St Andrews Churchyard.

The Forestry Commission www.forestry.gov.uk has been inundated with requests for information from members of the public and from the media on dying Horse Chestnut trees.

70TH ANNIVERSARY AGM 14TH MAY 2007

Residents packed Kemp Hall to hear the TRA Chairman, Paul Davis, welcome Theresa Villiers MP, the Mayor of Barnet Cllr Eva Greenspan and our 3 local councillors Brian Coleman, Richard Cornelius and Caroline Margo to this special anniversary AGM. Theresa Villiers reminded us that when this Association was formed in 1937 residents were concerned over the same issues as today, in particular overdevelopment, and had campaigned to preserve the unique nature of Totteridge, which has remained almost as a village.

Many questions were asked, including the sale of the library site, the proposed development of flats at 115 Totteridge Lane, over developement of sites and the lack of notice to residents from the planning department. The evening ended with the cutting of a giant birthday cake.
